The function of the Sergeant-at-Arms is to help maintain an orderly, dignified, and effective Rotary club meeting, one that will make the right kind of impression on club visitors and guests. The Sergeant-at-Arms must: Arrive 15 minutes ahead of the start of the meeting to ensure that everything is ready. Stand at the door 5 minutes before the meeting begins to welcome visitors, guests and members. Be sure that all members are wearing their name badges. See that members are seated promptly Make sure the food is served promptly. Call attention, in a humorous way during the fining portion of the meeting, to members who come in late. In a diplomatic manner, see that the members pay attention to the president’s gavel and that no one annoys the speaker by talking. Call attention to eat-and-run Rotarians in a tactful way. Collect fines and ‘happy dollars’ from members.
