Rotary Learning Institute (RLI)
From April Beston, District Governor Elect
What is Rotary Learning Institute (RLI)?
RLI is an exciting opportunity to learn about Rotary, leadership, and opportunities to improve your club. You'll learn through numerous sessions such as My Rotary World, Foundation, Ethics and Vocational Service, and much more! Most importantly, you'll share ideas with Rotarians from all around the district and beyond.
What makes RLI different from the Rotary Learning Center?
The Rotary Learning Center is a powerful tool on Myrotary.org that provides hundreds of short classes in a wider variety of subjects. However, RLI is unique in that you can come together with Rotarians with a wide range of club experiences, tenure in Rotary and diversity of thought to share ideas about fundraisers, service projects, membership, share challenges, and much more!
What happens at RLI?
Your day begins with breakfast. Then you will breakout with your group and go through 4 sessions. Each session is facilitated NOT taught. This means YOU direct the conversation, and share ideas with your group. After morning sessions you will enjoy lunch, and share in a celebration with those Rotarians finishing Part III who are graduating. After lunch there are two more sessions before you head home for the day. After RLI, we hope you will share your experiences with the rest of your club and return for additional sessions.
I've been to RLI before, why should I go again?
There are five classes being offered at Rotary Learning Institute: Part I, Part II, Part III, Graduate AND Facilitator Training! Each level is progressive, and we intend to offer RLI right here in District 7890 every year. However, you can attend in any district, and some districts offer RLI virtually, so it is possible to complete the progression within a short period of time. Check back at rlinea.org often to see the latest listing of site offerings.
I've been through Parts 1-3 and graduate before, should I go again?
Yes! The graduate course offering changes each year, so you should come every year to experience an all-day deep dive graduate course. This year's course offering is Rotarians Making an Impact, and also includes change and managing conflict.
I'm a new Rotarian, should I attend RLI?
Absolutely! New Rotarians are strongly encouraged to attend RLI. I believe there is no better way to learn about the wider Rotary world and the impact you can make as a Rotarian. It is also an invaluable way to meet Rotarians from around the district and beyond, as well as get a ton of new ideas to bring back to your club.
Will my club pay for RLI?
The district encourages clubs to pay for any member wishing to attend RLI. However, we understand that this may not be feasible for all clubs. If price is a concern, please email me directly, and we will ensure that you are able to attend.
I love RLI and want to become a facilitator, how do I sign up for Facilitator Training?
To become a facilitator you must be an RLI graduate (have completed Parts 1, 2 & 3) and have a recommendation from our District Governor, Vin Marinaro. Once Vin has emailed your recommendation to our RLI Regional Vice Chair, Joan Arsenault, you can register for facilitator training HERE. If you have already taken facilitator training in the past, but have not facilitated in more than 18 months, you must take facilitator training again. You can register at the same link HERE.
I know this is a long message, and I thank you for taking the time to read to the end. I am passionate about Rotary and Rotary Learning Institute. There is no other program that brings together Rotarians to share ideas in this format. I promise it will be a worthwhile experience! The key to RLI is attendance, the more Rotarians who attend, the more ideas and passion about Rotary that are shared. Please consider attending and encouraging as many members of your club to attend as possible.
Thank you for your support of this amazing experience!!!
I am excited to announce the date for our Epic Day of Service for 2025! This year we will be holding our service event day on Saturday,May17, 2025. I have been asked by District Governor Vin to Chair this event, along with PDG Kate Sims.
Our Day of Service began in 2022, when we set off on an adventure to bring service in our communities to the forefront of what we do!
Here we are in the 4th year of planning with 6 Countries, 17 Districts, 1000 Clubs and upwards of 30,000 Rotarians ready to make a difference with huge impact on May 17th!!
Mark your calendars and start planning now on how you will make a difference in your community and the world. We will keep you informed of all information as we get closer to the date. The planning committees are already meeting!
As in years past, you may not be able to coordinate to the exact date, but try to, if your club schedule permits. It is such a huge impact when we are all out there on the same day!! We are looking forward to working with you all again on another EPICDay of SERVICE and thanks to you all for all that you do in the name of Rotary each and every day!
