Visit from District Governor Christine Burns
Sep 21, 2023 12:15 PM - 1:30 PM
CHRISTINE BURNS
Christine Burns, District 7890
Holyoke Rotary Club

I joined the Holyoke Rotary Club in 2004, served as president in 2008-2009 and as Assistant District Governor from 2010-present, first with area 3 and now area 2. I am a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

Being involved not only in my local Club and the District but also internationally I enjoy a full Rotary experience. I'm currently an active member of two Rotary fellowships; International Fellowship of Quilters and Fiber Artists and International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians.

My passion is helping alleviate food insecurity in children. I chair the Holyoke Public Schools weekend backpack program which provides food for kids on weekends and vacations when they’re not in school to receive free breakfast and lunch.

I’m a children’s entertainer and teacher of music by trade, and have received many honors for this including Business Woman of the Year (2008) and Woman to Watch in Creative Arts (2010).

I live in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA with my husband, Patrick; daughter, Pearl and 14 chickens.

Thomaston Library Senior Memoir Writing Workshop
Oct 05, 2023 12:15 PM - 1:30 PM

Shanelle Dupre, Adult Programmer for the Thomaston Public Library, will speak about an upcoming grant-funded senior memoir writing workshop.

A Creative Aging in Connecticut Program

This class is designed for those age 55 and over who would like to get their own stories down on paper. Through writing exercises and discussion, students will delve into the themes, times, places, and people of their lives. From this material, stories will be developed. Students will learn what makes a story a memoir, how to identify themes and stories from their own lives, the craft of writing scenes, how to revise and edit, and how to effectively share their work with others. Each student will develop at least one story during class time. This is a cumulative program and participants are encouraged to attend all classes.

This class is limited to 15 people and registration is required before the start of the third class.

Advancing Creative Aging in Connecticut is supported by a generous grant from the Pasculano Foundation. Thank you to the Lifetime Arts, Connecticut Office of the Arts and Connecticut State Library for sponsoring this program.

Light Up Thomaston!
Nov 25, 2023 5:45 PM - 9:00 PM
Looking forward to seeing Thomaston's Rotarians today at
Light Up the Town!

As is the annual tradition, the Rotary Club of Thomaston will be supporting Light Up the Town by serving free hot cocoa in front of the law office of Seabourne, Malley and Turner (30 Main Street).

Volunteers should work at least a 1 hour shift at the hot cocoa table.  When you arrive, just get behind the hot cocoa table and start pouring and serving!

And when you're done volunteering, enjoy some hot cocoa yourself along with the festivities.

The festivities begin at 5:45PM today.
Check Facebook for more details and a map of events, activities, and free food and drink.
